Summary:

It is already known from literature that convection dominated convection-diffusion equations on a bounded domain have boundary layers. Therefore, there are some oscilattion sand numerical instabilities obtained from standard finite element method using uniform rough mesh which are not exist on the exact solution. In order to eliminate these numerical errors, either the mesh must be refined or some stabilized method should be used. In this thesis, the mostly used stabilized finite element method called SUPG is used to generate an adaptive mesh and improve the stabilized finite element solutions obtained from uniform mesh. The proposed method is tested on some problems defined in 1D and 2D, and the accuracy is observed from the obtained solutions using adaptive mesh.
