Summary:

Many fire occurrences taking place in structures owing to insufficient fire safety acquisition, inadequate application of the regulations and lack of control regarding to fire safety have been resulting in a great deal of economical loss. Unfortunately, fire safety in the meaning of architecture is left only to the sensitiveness of the designers. Starting from this point due to lack of improvement in fire safety consciousness, difficulties in reaching limited sources and standards to obtain information relating to the subject, together with the economical anxiety associated with the time needed for the designer to gather knowledge regarding to the matter have generally been causing fire safety in structures to be overlooked.

The chief objective of this study is to put forward the responsibilities of architectures during the design stage and to acknowledge them on what should be done by elucidating the main points associated with the subject. In the model formed using " The Expert System " approach, the structural features of the building designed are first of all determined in terms of fire safety concern and then depending on these features precautions necessary for fire safety are presented to designers. Behaving such an expert person, " Expert Systems " is a computer program dealing basically with problems pertaining to a special field. The precautions put into the model are determined using the outcomes of the studies carried out previously relating to the subject and by evaluating standards and regulations prepared formerly. Additional source information is not necessary during the use of the model developed. Designers are directly interfaced with a series of questions as well as answers associated with the structural features under consideration. All to do for the designers is just to click the answer interval in which the features of the building matches with. In the end, in order to make sure for fire safety, a set of decisions can be reached so as to direct the designer' s ideas. These decisions are not difficult to apply and they don' t cause any radical change in the design at all.
