Summary:

The characteristic texture of the vernacular houses in the rural settlements in Eastern Black Sea Region has started to deteriorate because of uncontrolled and irregular constructions built with concrete, reinforced concrete, bricks, etc. which do not take into consideration the regional conditions. The aim of this study is to solve such problems and to design buildings compatible with the vernacular texture and climatic conditions of the region, and to realize these designs through a wood-based prefabricated system that can easily be built on the sloping topography, that is light and portable, and that can easily be assembled.

This study contains four sections: General Information, Method, Findings and Discussion, and Conclusions and Recommendations.

The General Information section presents the aims and scope of the study, the regional conditions, prefabrication and the introductory information related to the wood-based prefabricated systems.

The methods section introduces the method which was used in the realization of the designs that are compatible with the vernacular texture with a wood-based prefabricated system by utilizing modular coordination. Structural Insulated Panels were used in the designs that were created using this method. This section also contains the types and sizes of panels, and planning decisions about the designs.

In the Findigns and Discussion section, the findings about the designs were discussed from different points of view.

Conclusions and Recommendations section contains the conclusins obtained and the recommendations. The study showed that houses that are compatible with the vernacular texture and with the climatic and topographic conditions of the region can be built with light, easily portable wooden panels by using a prefabricated system having a simple assemblage.
