Summary:

This study aims at increasing students creative ability by suggesting eyesight integration with

other senses leading to multi-sensory awareness of the field in which viewing only by eye is mostly

common now. During the design training of the first year, through various workplaces, students

must be taught that perception in design must not be only with eyesight but also other senses must

be added in designing course. This study has been carried out so that students can realize what their

personal potential is like and adapt themselves to the design course which they meet for the first

time. This thesis is to contribute a new approach to the design training which internalizes all senses

to create a better design work. In the first place, institutional framework of the study and main

headings such as creative idea and creativity, interrelation between creativity and psychological

approaches, design training, perception and senses, senses in design training are included here with

proper clarifications. In the second place, specification of the problem, aim of the study and its

assumptions and method of study are covered here. In the third place, finding section is dealt with

under four sections which are Torrence Creative Idea Tests, form design based on concept, findings

concerning multi-sensory awareness workplaces and questionnaires. In the fourth section of the

study, discussion about findings are included, and in the fifth section, results regarding changes in

students’ creativity, workplaces of multi-sensory awareness, form designs based on concept,

questionnaires and general considerations are covered. In the last section of the study, suggestions

for future studies take place in the light of findings available at the end of studies.
