| Summary: The basic aim in the Republican period was to create a modern-national state system especially with the studies made in language and education fields in the Anatolian geography where differences were apparent in terms the aspects of social, ethnical, economic and so on. It was made to be manifest in many fields within the periphery by means of reforms in social area, acceptance of modern education system, universal and national trends in architecture, and many other activities. Perceptions of modernity within periphery were usually an ignored issue in history writing studies within the central thinking systematic during the early Republican period. In this context, this study is an attempt to understand the spatial foundation of ideology by highlighting on the experienced processes of modernity in the province of Trabzon in the period from 1923 to 1960 and center-periphery mobility/dynamics.
