Summary: Many historical values and cultural environments have been lost or destroyed as a result of rapid urbanization that brought the concept of conservation into the agenda. However, since the applied conservation practices mainly are related to the concept of conservation of physical attributes of single buildings, so far they have not been successfulin the long run. As a priority, the concept of conservation has to be widened from single building scales to groups ofbuildings, to environmental scale and social, cultural, historical, economic aspects of urban environment.
