Summary:

Duties and responsibilities of women arising from their gender differentiate their expectations from their own life, priorities, problems, leisure time qualities, people who act with themselves from men?s. Women and men experience the environment differently, despite using the same spaces. Also urban open spaces which are created taking into account the specific standards and generalizations effect negatively the use of the spaces by women. In this context, the aim of the study can be summarized as determination of the factors influencing demand for use of urban open space of men and women. The study consists of theoretical and practical parts.

In theoretical part, a model is set in relation to the factors that affect the demand of using urban open spaces as part of gender. The model consists of individual and social factors, depending on the quality of recreational area and the relationship between individual and social factors and recreational space qualities. In practical part, survey study is conducted for defining the factors influencing recreational demand. Also, qualities of urban open spaces within the context of study area were analyzed, and their effects on the demand of use were questioned. As a result, factors that are effective over the usage demand of urban open space were determined in the context of gender. Suggestions about increasing the usage level of urban open space as part of gender were made.
