Summary: The metal-framed glass curtain wall systems, which existed in parallel with the technological developments from the second half of the 19th century on and which have been an element of the modern architecture, are a light curtain wall system that surrounds the building like shell. This study investigates the metal-framed glass curtain wall systems and the solutions to proofing (including fireproofing and sunproofing). The aim here is to probe into the components of curtain wall systems in terms of component properties, assembly methods, assembly duration, solutions to proofing materials, etc., and to evaluate each system in terms of their advantages and disadvantages. This study contains metal-framed glass curtain wall systems, which are called as standard system, structural silicon system, mixed system and panel system, and the solutions to proofing of these systems. Other light curtain wall systems, e.g., the planar system, and the problems concerning the statics and cost are out of the scope of this study.
For this thesis, a fieldwork was carried out for the analysis of the metal-framed curtain wall systems in the buildings, their components, the solutions to proofing and its materials. A preliminary investigative work was carried out for the fieldwork. The Findings and Discussion includes the data obtained about the curtain wall systems and solution to proofing, and the evaluation of these data. At the end, various conclusions were drawn with respect o the metal-framed glass curtain wall systems and the solutions to proofing.
