Summary:

Until the twentieth century, load carrying capacities of material used affected the design seriously and shaped it. However, parallel with the development of technology, currently new and more practical horizons have been opened for the construction sector providing more freedom in design. It requires more experience and qualified workforce than in the past to understand and the contemporary and in order to develop the desire to work in cooperation with other disciplines.

Although sealing which is not widely known and appreciated constitutes a small portion of the construction cost when done at the beginning of application, the damage and loss that is caused by the failure of applying it properly or not applying it at all is even bigger and usually non-reversible.

In the second part, two study which were made are explained. With the first study, a survey has been carried out with the participation companies producing sealing materials in order to determine the hardships faced at the application stages by companies and their suggestions for solution, what complaints there are generally and where these stem from, what the criteria are when choosing material, and what duties of the designers and companies are. In the second study, per square cost of flat roofs are calculated and adequacy of these roofs are examined.

In the third part, the results of the studies are evaluated by statistics.

And in the last part, the results obtained from the thesis are explained and proposals are presented.
