| Summary: The purpose of the study is to sustain and maintain the demolishing and vanishing section of the historical environments which are caused by rapid urban development and to integrate this section into the cities. There are three sections in this study. In the first section, the reasons of the problem are identified, the purpose and method of the research is stated. The main questions of the study which is the protection of the historical environments are explained in every aspects, and the planning approaches are presented. The esthetic value of the planning approaches are introduced with suggested examples.In the third section, the approaches introduced in the first section are applied to the selected areas and design recommendations are suggested based upon the findings. At the end of the study, the results of the research are emphasized the necessity for a holistic approach in historic preservation.
