Summary:

      The historical development of the residence concept introduced under the scope of

utopias and the effect of these utopist approaches on today’s ideal residence are examined

      in this study, conceptually studying the relation between utopia and architecture and

studying the reflections of utopias classified as encountered “before 19th century, 19th

      

The first chapter of the study exemplifies the utopia concept and definitions within

      the philosophy and other branches of arts, also touching on the general characters of the

utopias.

      How utopias went beyond being just on the realm of literature towards the realm of

architecture and why architecture indeed is a branch of arts which has to exist in all kinds

      of utopias, and examines the relation between utopias and architecture, exemplifying with

utopias created on architecture.

      The position of the residence within utopias and examines the residence concept

within utopias created between 19th century and 21st century.

      The second chapters study the utopist approaches introduced in 20th and 21st

centuries, their reflections on residence and residence architecture, giving examples such

      as Buckminister Fuller and Archigram who, in 20th century, have designs on residence

described as utopist and designers such as Jennifer Siegal, Colani and Haus, Martin Ruiz

      

residence concept, also under the light of utopias created on previous centuries, and

      examples from designs such as Microsoft Future House, E- Residence, Residence-n.

The reflections of utopist philosophy and approaches emerged between 19th and 21st

      centuries which are covered under the thesis are analyzed and the conclusions are given in

detail in the last chapter.
