Summary:

      This study was built on the notion that creative drama could be carried out as an alternative approach in the educational programs of architecture and design schools. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the effects of using creative drama as a teaching method on students’ academic success, recall of information and attitudes towards the courses in the context of design education.

The study consists of four main chapters: Outline of the Study, Conducted Studies, Findings and Discussions, Conclusions and Recommendations. The first chapter is devoted to the subject, scope and purpose of study and the methodology used in the study are elaborated. In the second chapter, the concepts of education, learning and teaching are described with reference to design education. Moreover, the concept of creative drama and the role and the importance of creative drama are highlighted. The third chapter consists of the methods employed throughout the application phase. Activities for the defined curriculum are introduced. Application stages are elaborated and the data gathered after the implementation of the activities are discussed in the context of the relevant courses. In the fourth chapter, data obtained through the data gathering tools is analysed with a focus on students’ perceptions, interests, attitudes and academic success. Finally, the fifth chapter deals with the results of the data obtained and provide insights into the methods to be followed in future contributions.
