Summary:

Advancements in technology after the industrial revolution have not only become a milestone in every field but also leaded to a breakaway point in architecture. However, this technology-oriented design approach is an approach based on heavy energy consumption. In order to meet energy need showing up, fossil energy sources have been used. But the concern over depletion of these sources and their negative effects over environment during / after utilization have drawn the attention to use of renewable energy sources and development of new approaches. In this study conducted in the city of Trabzon, the samples of traditional structure design in which energy is efficiently and economically used are handled through passive approaches. In the section, General Description, the aim and scope of the study is explained. Some information including sustainability, ecology, energy, and traditional construction is given. In the section, Conducted Studies, the way to create the sampling set is explained. The methods applied while conducting the field survey are described and the sample buildings are introduced by ID cards generated in this section. The climate compass used to analyze the buildings is also introduced here. In the section, Findings and Discussion, the samples are examined and then passive approaches are presented. These approaches are examined in terms of their existence in the samples and the way to be handled. In the section, Conclusion and Suggestions, the obtained results and suggestions are introduced. In the traditional constructions in Trabzon, it is found out that passive energy approaches are available.
