| Summary: Described as the manipulation of molecular structures, nanotechnology is differentiated with respect to its main focus on the direct control of matter on atomic scale. There is an increasing expectation on the possibility of perfection thanks to once seemingly impossible idea of designing atoms and their relationships at molecular levels. Being a multidisciplinary realm, nanotechnology has impacts on architecture, with the developments on material knowledge in particular. This knowledge driven by studies on nano-scale bestows unprecedented features, details and characters to the material. Introducing available and prospective nano-materials, this research demonstrates their use in architecture. Based on this content, four chapters comprise the study.Firstly, it describes the purpose and scope of the thesis while introducing nanotechnology in general. Secondly, nanotechnological materials and their use in architecture is explained in detail together with the precedents that are selected after preliminary analysis.In the findings and discussion part, the use of current nanotechnological materials is scrutinised in comparison with the knowledge in literature. Finally, the last chapter provides the conclusion of this research.
