Summary:

      Education has been accepted as important at every moment of history by all societies; and every society developed various concept of their own methods of raising human being. The importance being given to education and the method of human development give way to the criticizing of conventional education system that is defined as strict, monotone and teacher centered and searching for alternative ways at education area. Alternative education methods which occured as reaction to traditional education system are approaches that are child centered and focus on practical learning and accept each child as unique individual. Montessori Method that is one of the alternative education approaches attracts attention by being an approach which gives maximum freedom to child, reflects education principles not only to education method but also to physical environment of the child and defends that the strongest relationship at education is developed between education and environment. When the subject of forming of education areas is evaluated in respect of architecture discipline, it can be said that Montessori Method has a strong relationship with architecture discipline.

In this study, in which the main principles of Montessori Method were conceptualized, it was aimed to examine the effects and reflections of generated concepts on place organization via conceptual analysis. As a result of this aim, firstly alternative education approaches were defined, and then the differances of Montessori Method from these approaches were produced. After explaining teacher, child, material and prepared environment titles, the concepts defining the method were stated. These concepts were analyzed upon 15 Montessori Schools to whose written and drawen documents can be reached. At the end of study, it was identified that the concepts defining the method reflected on physical environment in the form of generating learning street, learning garden, articulated spaces, antropometric designs and specialized spaces.
