Summary:

As computer technologies started to be used in architecture practice in 1960 s, various changes have come about. Computer that was a tool at design process before turned into environment where design is materialized later on. Computer s constituting of a new design medium brought new concepts at design process about. It is thought that the change of tool, medium and method through technological innovations, altered the process. At the same time, this situation has been accepted as the most important paradigm change in architecture.

In this respect, within the scope of this study, it is aimed to analyze the design process of computational design methods, exhibit the concepts and techniques therein and the design process model which consists them, and discuss different sides of it from conventional design process.

In general information section, after litterateur studies that is the theoretical substructure of the thesis, examples of computational design methods were determined and design processes were analyzed. In findings and research section, the concepts and techniques taking place at process were specified, and process model consisting of these concepts and techniques was produced.

At the end of the study, computational design, whose intellectual origin can be earlier and which joined as a new approach to architecture practice since 1960 s, produces a process different form conventional methods and features design process. It is occurred that the usage of computational methods at early design process, changed design process as rational and systematical data-information-knowledge manipulation process consisting creativity and where variations are produced depending on defined components and process.
