Summary:

      In this study usability possibilities of wood of tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima (Mill.) Swingle) in particleboard industry were analyzed.

As a result, while increase in resin usage ratio, the face layer ratio and weight density made a positive effect on mechanical properties (modulus of repture, modulus of elasticity and internal bond strength) and surface roughness, this increase made a negative effect on formaldehyde emission. Increasing the face layer ratio and resin usage ratio, decreased the thickness swelling (one of the physical properties) values of particleboard at 2 and 24 hours. However, as a result of increase in weight density, thickness swelling value at 2 hours decreased and thickness swelling value at 24 hours increased.

      Dust, bark, branch and rough particle usage in produced particleboard, regional difference and chemical and anatomical properties of raw material have effect on mechanical properties of boards and thickness swelling values. While dust usage, regional difference and chemical and anatomical properties of raw material have effect on surface roughness; bark and branch usage, regional difference and chemical and anatomical properties of raw material have effect on formaldehyde emission.
