Summary:

The aim of the study was to research using possibilities of pine species grown in Turkey for structural plywood manufacturing. For this reason, scotch pine, black pine and maritime pine were used as tree species. Melamine urea formaldehyde (MUF) and phenol formaldehyde (PF) resins were used for five ply plywood manufacturing as adhesive.

Some mechanical properties such as shear strength, bending strength, modulus of elasticity, lateral nail strength of the plywood panels were conducted accordance to TS EN 314-1, TS EN 310, ASTM D 1761, respectively. Physical properties such as density, equilibrium moisture content and thermal conductivity were determined according to TS EN 323, TS EN 322 and ASTM C 1113-99, respectively. The plywood panels also were exposed to the weathering process according to ASTM C 481 to determine the effect of the weathering on some mechanical and physical properties of the test panels.

In the result of that black pine plywood panels gave the best mechanical properties. Mechanical properties of the plywood panels manufactured with PF resin were higher than those of the test panels manufactured with MUF resin. Determined technological properties of most of the test groups met the values given in concerning standards and former studies.
