Summary:
Results indicated that the behavior of all wood species studied is qualitatively similar. In general, the dielectric properties increase within the range studied with rising moisture content. Also the grain direction of the wood plays a significant role. The specific effect of the parameters of moisture content and grain direction on the dielectric properties also depends on the wood species. The dielectric properties increase linearly with increasing specific gravity. With respect to frequency, the dielectric constant and loss factor decrease as frequency increase except for loss tangent. Little increase in loss tangent is obtained as frequency increase. The influence of chemical impregnants on the dielectric properties of wood is significant. The dielectric behavior of impregnated wood according to grain direction and wood species is similar to that of natural wood. Keywords:Dielectric constant, loss factor, loss tangent, naturall wood, impregnated wood, microwave frequency.
