Summary: In this study, some physical, mechanic, technologic and chemical properties of heated wood beech (Fagus orientalis) and spruce (Picea orientalis) woods were investigated.
As physical properties; specific gravity, rate of the water absorption, water repellency efficient, equilibrium moisture content, as mechanic properties; static bending strength, modulus of elasticity and compression strength parallel to the grain, as technologic properties; values of Brinell-hardness, as chemical properties; hot-water soluble components, solubility in extracted with % 1 NaOH, cellulose, holocellulose and lignin contents were determined. The results indicated that the effects of heat treatment on physical properties especially with dimensional stabilization was found satisfactory. Mechanic and technologic properties values generally exhibited a decrease with increasing the exposure durations and temperatures. In the chemical properties, it was seen that hemicellulose was the wood-cell components most degraded by the heat treatment.
