Summary: Systems used in the production of goods and delivery services are subject to deterioration with usage and age. System deterioration is often reflected in higher production costs and lower product quality. There is a pressure to reduce number of the preventive maintenance because their costs are also added to the operating cost of the system. In this study, the relation between maintenance and quality has been investigated. To find this relation out, the characteristics of the production systems from the perspective of two different maintenance policies have been examined comparatively. The characteristics which are important to get the aim of this study are the quality and quantity of products, the speed of production, the quantity of downtime and customer satisfaction. As a research material, an organization produced medium density fiber board in the forest products industry has been selected to examine. The organization continuously produces at full capacity. The used equipments shut down and need to be maintained. To gain the purpose, simulation has been used as a method. Two different discrete simulation models have been modelled. One of them are depends on fixed time periods and other failure numbers. The optimal failure number which balances between down time and preventive maintenance duration has been found by running the simulation according to different failure number. The maintenance depends on failure numbers has positively had more effects on the quality and quantity of products, breakdowns, availability and customer satisfaction.
