Summary:

In this research, effect of some factors on strength of frame manufactured from Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) profiles were studied. For this purpose, decorative paper covered MDF were used as 280X50X22mm. Mitre-mate bonding method for miter joint was used while PVC pink adhesive was used for other bonding methods, also PVAc white adhesive was used for double dovetail mitter joint method and dowel mitter joint method. In addition, dowel, plastic dovetail and blind spline were used. The experiments in this research were done according to the ISO 6237, ASTM-D 1037, TS 4539, TS 3891.

The tensile strength for double dovetail miter corner joints was the highest, for miter joint method was the lowest and for single dovetail, dowel and blind spline joint among the other joint methods were found to be middle level. The compression strength for single dovetail miter joint and double dovetail miter joint methods were the highest, for miter corner joint method, for miter corner joint with dowel method and miter corner joint with blind spline method were found to be lower.

In tensile strength and compression strength, were it found that PVC adhesives had more strength than PVAc adhesives, wide profile had more strength than norrow profile, it had more distance between dowel had more strength than it had less distance between dowels.

The tensile strength for all joint methods were found to be higher than compression strength.
