Summary:

In this study the mechanical and physical properties of the trees which are exposed to SO2 gases are compared with the non exposed ones.

For the physical properties air and oven dry specific gravity, volume density; for the mechanical properties compression strength parallel to the grain, static bending strength, modulus of elasticity for bending strength, shear strength, impact strength and value of Brinell hardness were determined.

The obtained data of SO2 exposed specimens were compared with clean specimens. Then comparisons of tree specieses which have similar wood properties were made. For the conclusion proposals were given.

No effect of SO2 gases have been determined on the physical and mechanical properties of observed species woods.
