Summary: In this study, effects of the forest fires on the physical and mechanical properties of calabrian pine (Pinus brutia Ten.) wood were investigated. In the experiments, a total of eight specimens, four exposed to fire and four unexposed to fire (control), from Antalya - Gebiz- Serik region, were utilized. The selection of the experimental trees, preparation of the test specimens and application of the test procedures were done according to relevant standards.Physical properties (air and oven dry specific gravities, volume density value, wood water relatives) and mechanical properties (compression strength parallel to the grain, static bending strength, modulus of elasticity for bending strength, shear strength, impact strength and value of Brinell hardness) were determined in this study. Effects of the forest fires on the physical and mechanical properties of calabrian pine (Pinus brutia Ten.) wood were determined and the results compared with similar tree species.According to the test results, forest fire did not affect the physical properties of calabrian pine except for shrinkage and swelling values. However, forest fire decreased the mechanical properties except for impact strength. Keywords: Calabrian pine, Pinus brutia Ten. Physical and Mechanical Properties, Forest Fire |
