Summary:

At the surface sediments representing well enough working area and being taken from 17 stations, total concentrations of Cr, Mn, Al, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Mo and Pb metals was measured. Being seen granulometry shaped like silt, sand, sandy silt, silty sand and gravel on sediment speciments taking form stations.

At the sediment specimens, it was determinated what carbonate 8,54-18,05 %, total organic carbon 0,26-2,43 %, organic substance 1,02-8,52 %, pH 6,91-8,24, ORP 159-269 mV, dry substance 97,9-99,94 % and water content 0,06-2,10 % change between upper percentages. In the study, determined min. and max. concentrations for Cr, Mn, Al, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Mo ve Pb were determinated as in terms of weight values are (13,4-82,3), (200,2-446,9), (19965-48723), (8,01-32,8), (9,8-26), (24,9-3107), (102-4259), (5,4-58), (0,21-20), (15,5-208).

Al, Cr, Mn in surface sediments of Sürmene Bay and Ni concentrations were below the earth’s crust and the average shale values. Co, Cu, Zn, Mo and Pb concentrations were above the averages.

In terms of Sediment Enrichment Factor, low values for Cr, Mn, Co and Ni elements; medium values for Pb; significant values for Zn, As and Mo; a high degree of enrichment for Cu element have been detected.
