Summary: In this study, the varnisahability properties of some commercially important wood species were searched, therefore four different wood species (Beech and Alder As hardwoods, and Spruce and Fir as softwood) and one type of varnish (Cellulosic varnish) were used. In addition, in order to determine effect of sawn types and fiber directions, density, roughness, dry film thickness and adhesion strength values of samples were investigated. The best adhesion strength is observed in the Beech wood, followed by Alder, Spruce and the Eastern Nordmanniana respectively. It is proven that the sanding has an effect on roughness values and the best surface roughness was determined as a result of sanding with No. 180. According to the experiment results, it is concluded that radial and tangential cross-section, roughness and adhesion strength varies between different tree species. The result indicated that values of roughness and adhesion strength were determined that based on sanding effecting and wood species. Key Words: Adhesion strength, surface roughness, Beech, Eastern Spruce, Alder and Abies Nordmanniana
