Summary:

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of layer orientation on some technological properties of plywood and LVL produced from different wood species. For this purpose, 5-layers plywood, laminated veneer lumber (LVL), LVL that laminated the middle layer perpendicular to the other layers and plywood that laminated the middle layers parallel to each other were produced. The production of panels, poplar (Populus deltoides), Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and spruce (Picea orientalis L.) were used as wood species and urea formaldehyde and fenol formaldehyde were used as adhesive . Physical properties of the samples included equilibrium moisture content, specific gravity and thermal conductivity were determined according to TS EN 322, TS TS EN 323-1 and ASTM C 518 & ISO 8301, respectively. Also mechanical properties such as shear strength, bending strength and modulus of elasticity were evalueted according to TS EN 314-1 and TS EN 310. As a result of the study, the highest mechanical strength values were obtained from LVL panels while the lowest values were found in plywood that laminated the middle layers parallel to each other.
