Summary:

Bamboo are the members of Graminaceae family and have 76 variety and more than 1200 species. The biggest that bamboo spread out over the world are damp tropical Asia and the islands found in The Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean. Bamboo are spread out naturally all Continents except Pole region and Europe Continent. In this research Phyllostachys bumbusodies Siebt et Zucc. That is thought to be grown in East Blacksea Region was investigated.

In the contents of this thesis general usage areas of bamboo were examined. As experimental study the production of Phyllostachys bumbusodies Sieb. et Zucc. With rhizome cutting was realized. In the production study, the effect of 0.4% IBA, nutrient and paraffin on production was researched in spring and winter. Also average height of new bamboo culms in 1997 was measured in bamboo stand found in Pazar county of Rize city.

The values obtained from production study were determined as percent values and compared.

In the growing period of bamboo found in Pazar county of Rize city, daily increase in maximum height of bamboo was obtained nearly 1 m. In the production study, production in spring was found more successful than the production in winter. The usage of 04 % IBA hormone was obtained as the most effective factor in rhizome rooting. Also it is found so important to use well drained and productive soil in production area, to protect production parcel from extreme sunlight in summer months and to take measures against harmful that can be found in soil and especially Danaburnu (Gryllotarpa gryllotalpa).
