      The goal of this research thesis is to find out the elements affecting personal space distance of users in an architectural space.

      To reach this goal, a research on people utilizing park was carried out in a central park in Trabzon. The thesis starts with the definitions of such concepts as people, architectural space, personal space and crowding. These are the elements affecting personal space are given. Then,

      1. Personal space intrusion,

      2. Behavior and qualities of users,

      3. Need of privacy.

      In this research, personal space distance of fullness measure and sitting distance to the nearest person were determined by observing two terraces chosen in the study area.

      As a result of this research, it was found that there were differences in personal space distances in relation to personal characteristics and privacy needs of users.

      Area users were observed and short inventory was conducted people. As a result, some clues were obtained about the characterizes of space design and differences between users expectation in personal space distance using the results of this research and the literature suitable design solutions for personal space distance of users were developed in landscape designs.
