      In order to make a visual analysis of the road. Some spots which can be seen along the road and which have different visual effects have been determined and classified. Whit the help of this classification, wiew spots, directing elements, decision spots and spots which cause visual distraction have been found and a questionnaire which has been prepared to determine the visual charecteristics and effects of these spots has been given to passers-by. The results of the inquiriy have been evaluated by khi-square method and SPSS packet program and then transferred into tables and graphics.

      Whit the help of the data obtained in terms of visual elements and some suggestions have been made, by making use of these desing principles which are needed to desing the road as a viewing road have been determined.

      One of the main results of the study is that highways are important elements of landscape and the neighborhood of the highways should be desingned so that the people using the roads can make a confortable trip. Another important point to be emphasized is that the decisions regarding the highway landscape planning should be given before using the road during the construction stage not later and landscape architectures should be involved during the designing stage.
