      Recently, studies on urban biodiversity and species diversity are increasing, deal mainly with general aspects of diversity. But, specifically there are many other elements composing biodiversity which must be determined and evaluated for future landscape planning. It could be seen easily today that the city has a definite potential in terms of biodiversity. In this study, floristic diversity in some house and mass housing settlements are selected for investigation in Trabzon city. In the first part which includes the theoretical section of the study, urban and urbanization concept, urban ecosystems, urban green spaces and theirs importance are investigated. Detailed information is given about biodiversity, floristic diversity and the importance of floristic diversity of urban residential areas and the factors affecting urban floristic diversity. In the application part, species distribution, richness and dendrology and their change according to dependent variables were examined. Additionally, the relationship between residential land use type and plant species diversity have been examined. Finally some suggestions have been made to stress the importance of urban floristic diversity on landscape design and management toward to increase urban landscape value.
