Summary:

In recent years, the importance of plants for human’s physical and psychological health increased and because of their positive effects on human health healing plants became an alternative treatment method in human psychological health problems.

In this research, a questionnaire consisting of 15 questions was conducted. All of the respondents live in a house with private garden. The data gathered from the questionnaire were analyzed by SPSS computer program and frequency, chi-square and crosstable analyzes were used to provide statistical results.

This study aims to evaluate if there is a growing public concern about medical plants in Trabzon. Furthermore which parts of the medical plants that people grow in their gardens, used for what kind of illnesses are also determined. According to findings of this study it was proposed that in order to increase the knowledge of public about healing plants authorized institutions in local government may built medical plants garden. In this garden medical plants can be investigated, produced, displayed and by showing how to benefit from healing properties of plants the public may realize the resources of nature. By this way the healing plants can be protected and the importance of nature in our living environments can be easily understood.
