Single family dwellings, covers more space day by day in cities. But landscapes made in gardens belong to such dwellings could not meet privacy necessities adequately. It was predicted to decrease this problem which arises in dwelling gardens with functional usage of plant material and compositions. According to studies, user preferences were determined in relation to privacy necessity by emphasizing functional usages of plant elements. Thus, survey study was made with totally 105 dwelling user in order to determine privacy necessity of the user in 10 single family dwellings which were determined in Trabzon city centre. According to achieved data, general frequency distributions were firstly presented. After that, the answers of users were associated with each other and were analyzed and evaluated with statistical methods. As a result, it was observed that privacy preferences of users do not change according to demographic data, and artificial elements were preferred for providing privacy in single family dwellings. It was observed that the preference of users in relation to closing degree of outdoors is related with area landscapes where visual communication is not broken and functional properties of plants were focused on more. Thus, it was shown that how plant materials do must be used for providing privacy in the design of such places to be made in the future and suggestions were presented.
