      Urban identity is comprised of the salient, attractive and specific elements of a city which have survived from the past until today, constantly developing, appealing to our five senses with the urban image it has influenced and shaped by its natural, man-made, cultural and economic characteristics. With the rapid increase in population and due to the economic, technological and political factors brought about by the modern age, the rise of unplanned urbanization had caused many problems and thus the urban identity problem has emerged. When people can connect to their environment in all aspects, attribute values to it and when they come sensitive to these values and feel a sense of belonging, then the environment gains a meaning at it possesses an identity.

      The method of the study is comprised of four stages, first of which is literature study toeards determining the natural and cultural values having importance im regards to cultural elements in Trabzon followed by the second stage which includes the inventory study for determining the current state of the study site in terms of its elements concerning the study, at the third stage is comprised of the administration of a questionnaire with experts and the local people in order to put forward the importance of the determined elements as identity factors (including the common questions asked to both experimental groups) and their evaluation. The results of the questionnaire were evaluated by using SPSS multivariate statistical techniques; namely reliability analysis, frequency analysis and crosstabs analysis. The final stage consists of literature search, case study towards determining the components and the evaluation of the data obtained from questionnaires. As a result of the study, it was observed that at and around the study district there are many man-made environment components of identity which define the city; however, that the recognition, perceptibility and imaginary effect of these components has not been evaluated at the desired level. A solution has been offered to increase the recognition, perceptibility and imaginary effect of the environment identity components at the study site.
