Summary:

The main objective of the current study is to generate a Campus Urban Furniture Information System (CUFIS), which will enable users to attain all types of information needed during the decision making procedure relating future planning or renewing and maintenance works in an efficient and reliable way of university. For this purpose, attributions of 2369 items of urban furniture placed within the borders of Kanuni Campus –Karadeniz Technical University were transferred to GIS environment, and a database, along with identity cards for each item of urban furniture, was created accordingly. In the scope of the thesis, statistical analyses were made on the database generated. The number, concentration, placement model, visual qualities, aesthetic characteristics and attributions of the campus urban furniture, and the relationship between user and urban furniture, activity and urban furniture, and space and urban furniture were presented in the light of the analyses. Apart from that, through a survey study aiming at “determining the contribution of campus fittings to quality of life and campus identity, and their level of being sustainable-ecological” conducted on a user group composed of 60 individuals selected among academicians and students, it was revealed that the contribution was poor in terms of identity and being sustainable-ecological, and medium in terms of quality of life. In the light of all analyses and evaluations, the need and efficiency of CUFIS for landscape planning and design were argued, and suggestions were made for further development.
