Summary:

      With its creating opportunities and meeting the needs, the courtyard, which is internal, surrounded by the limits, but an open place, is a special architectural texture. The courtyard area is an architectural product developed by needs of the people for sheltering taking shape since stone age. In this development process, Classical Ottoman Period architectural structures described as a high level of style are worthy of attention due to their multi functional and different courtyard uses and unique solutions.

In this study, the aim is to examine the courtyard typologies oand courtyard uses of structures with courtyards like mosques, khans and madrassas in terms of different functions. And the the evaluation is aimed to be submitted at the end. The study consists of four

      sections:

In the first section of the study, courtyard descriptions according to different sources within the framework of literature research, courtyard characteristics, its use in historical process and stylistic expressions were studied and general information was given. Later, the concepts expressing the classical period and courtyard were found out.

      In the second section, starting from the concepts acquired from literature and preceding researches, analysis forms were used as method. Based on the criteria, the data and characteristics of the structures chosen for the forms were included. In the third section, within the framework of selected sample structures and method,

the comments and the evaluation of the courtyards were made.

      In the fourth section, in line with the all analyses and evaluations, the conclusions

related to the subject and suggestions take place.
