| Summary: In this study, in order to understand the problems experienced during the redefinition of natural protected areas, the subject has been evaluated extensively and solutions for the problems have been presented. The protection of all-natural assets, including protected areas, is guaranteed in our constitution and it has been a party to many international conventions. The protection of natural protected areas since 1951 has to be renewed in various periods due to international standards and national requirements. Within the scope of the Regulation on the Procedures and Principles Regarding the Determination, Registration and Approval of Protected Areas entered into force in 2011, a new process has been initiated in the definition of natural protected areas. Thus, the principles and criteria to be used in defining natural protected areas are evaluated within the scientific framework and carried out objectively by experts in different fields. However, many natural sites have not been identified yet. In order to solve the problems as soon as possible, firstly, the legal definition of the terminology in accordance with the international standards, the deficiencies in the legal status should be completed and the uncertainties of authority among the institutions should be eliminated. In addition, it is very important to carry out both the legal infrastructure and the necessary inventory studies for the expropriations to be made in the public interest and to allocate the necessary budget. |
