| Summary: Cities are not randomly placed spaces of human densities that they developed orderly in time. In this order city dwellers have been located according to their socio- economic dissimilarities either together or distant that caracterize the spaces which they are located in. Social area analysis is a tool to investigate spatial differentation-segregation of city dwellers, which takes in to account of various aspects of the city dwellers, and physical zonning of the neighbourhoods.Unfortunately there are not much examples on social area analysis in Turkey. Without looking at the social patterns of urban residential settlings, cities will become populated urban agglomerations. Changes in societies brings different spatial demands together with. If this demands are not carried out, cities become physical and social debris areas. Study of the social areas of Trabzon has been dealt with the above matters. The thesis is consist of five chapters.First chapter devoted to the aim, concepts and description of the thesis. Second chapter deals with the study area and the method used.Third chapter is related to carefully investigation of research findings. Fourth chapter covers social area analysis results of factor analysis.Fifth chapter gives some clues about the planning management policies to be followed that are based on factor analysis.
