Summary:

Rapid urbanization, population growth and increasing urban activities due to

economic and social development have given rise to demand in transportation not only as

qualitiy but also quantity. City dwellers demand a more comfortable, safe and higher

capacity transportation service. In developing countries like Turkey where city planning

processes do not work properly, the problem got worse because of the fact that this demand

was not met in order. Considering inner city transport as a simple question of traffic and

taking daily measures through inconsistent investments in commuting cause irreversible

and serious errors. Search for consistend and realistic solution forms the basis of

transportation planning works. Existing and forthcoming problems are pointed out one by

one and then these problems are solved using the avaible sources profoundly. After the city

transportation structure is observed, what will happen to this structure in the coming years

is determined. The most fundamental requirement of the modern city life is the fast

comfortable and safe accessibility of to all urban activities by the whole society. Achieving

this goal means solving the existing problems on time without leaving it to the future. The

solutions should provide promising and permanent measures for the future. The aim in this

study is to determine the application and design errors of the route between two most

intense points chosen in the centre of Giresun and to reduce the effect of these errors and

therefore to provide pedestrian and vehicle safety at the highest level.
