| Summary: The fact that the rural settlement in Trabzon province is quite dispersed brings about the problems of; depredation of forest lands and cultivated areas, high substructure costs due to dispersed rural settlement, loss of life and property due to settlement on areas carrying natural disaster risk, unplanned, uncontrolled structuring that does not carry scientific and practical principles. The purpose of this work is, first to determine the effects of elements (slope, direction, height, transportation and property) that holds a high level of effect on choice and order upon rural settlement in Trabzon province. As such, further purpose of the work is to evaluate the effects of previously mentioned these elements in rural settlement planning and to present suggestions. The first part of this work includes the purpose of the work, concepts of rural settlement, elements that effect the rural settlement texture and the general status of rural settlement in Turkey. The second part of the work titled studies includes the method of work, introduction to the study area, determining sixteen reference settlement areas(villages) and the explanations made upon the analyses. The third part of the work includes the findings of reference area analyses and further discussions upon these findings. The fourth and the last part of the work includes, assessment of the findings in general and according to hypothesis, suggestions regarding what can be done on rural settlement planning and further scientific research that can be made to complete the subject work.
