Title of the Thesis: Organic Geochemical Characteristics and Depositional Environments of Eocene Coals in North Anatolian
Level: M.Sc.
Acceptance Date: 10/9/2007
Number of Pages: 192

Summary:

Ash, volatile material, total sulfur and upper heat values of coals are different. According to vitrinite reflection measurements, all coals are in diagenesis stage. Based on the same data, degree of carbonization is found as sub-bituminous A or high-volatile bituminous C for the Yeniçeltek, Eskiçeltek and Armutlu coals, sub-bituminous C for the Boğaköy and Salıpazarı coals and lignite for the Aspiras coals.

Gas chromatograms indicate the dominancy of n-alkanes, which are the indictor of terrestrial environment with single carbon number, and little amount of algal contribution.

UCM observed in gas chromatograms indicates immature organic matter and biodegredation. In addition, Tmax, CPI and OEP indexes, vitrinite reflection and biomarker maturity data show that coal samples are thermally immature.
