Summary:

In this study, it was aimed to characterizate antibiotic resistance in enteric bacteria which are isolated from sea water in Rize city coast.

In the study, which is validated between the dates November 2005 to January 2006, amount of total coliform bacteria determined in 27 sea water examples which are taken from nine station that are determined in Rize city coast, isolated enteric bacteria are identified with IMViC tests and their resistance are determined against certain antibiotics.

That was seen, from 45 enteric bacteria which are isolated from Rize sea water examples are resistant to, 11 of them to ampisilin, 7 of them to tetracycline and 6 of them to other tested antibiotics. When resistance profiles of resistance seen enteric bacteria are investigated, it was seen that they were carrying TEM-1 β-lactamase, tetB, Class1 and Class 2 integron.

As a result of the study, that was determined, there is antibiotic resistance in the environment and this resistance can be spread between bacteria. This result is important for public and environment health.
