INVESTIGATION OF GEOTECHNICAL PROPERTIES OF ANDESITIC ROCK MASSES AT AYVALI DAM SITE (OLUR, ERZURUM)

The geological units in the studied area are the Liyas aged Hamurkesen Formation and Quternary alluvium.

Surface studies were conducted for description of vertical and horizontal homogeneity of geotechnical units in the site, and 1/2500 scaled map was prepared. Lugeon tests were applied for determination of seepage.

In the laboratory studies, physical and strength properties were determined on the samples collected from the boreholes and rock blocks.

In the field, scan-line surveys on natural rock exposures were performed and the quantitative description of discontinuities was conducted.

Rock mass strength was calculated with Hoek-Brown empirical approach using by data obtained from laboratory studies and scan-line surveys.

In this study, to describe the area to be excavated, excavatability properties of the rock masses were determined using geomechanic parameters.

In conclusion, the depths of injections at the dam site were determined.
