      Determination of temporal dynamics of forest resources ( land use and forest cover) is necessary for sustainable management of forest ecosystems. Using of Information Systems provides this opportunity to the users. To produce reliable, up-to-date, correct information in a short time basis on well designed spatial data bases. Using technologies and experiences together help to decision-maker to decide easily.

      In the study area, forest resources and land use pattern changed in this period depend on irregular forest activities, social pressure and demographic factor. According to the analysis, in Istanbul, the results show 2.11 % decrease in productive forest areas and 11.90 % decrease in agriculture land whereas 11.07 % increased in residential area. Comparison of both sites in Istanbul, land use was changed according to the demographic factor in the period of 1971 and 2002. Forest area pattern also to be influenced partly for this reason. In conclusion, using spatial database in %stanbul, both spatial and temporal changes determined for the forest area and other land use areas in between 1971 and 2002.
