Summary: In this study, stand structures of pure torch pine, Turkish pine, sweet chestnut and the mixed forests in Balikesir-Madra Mountain were introduced. Thanks to these information gained, the best silvicultural intervention method were tried to find to manage the forests. In the scope of this research, 16 sample plots were taken in Madra Mountain. In these plots, collar diameter, breast height diameter, tree heights and lenghts of crown were measured. In addition, at each sample plots, the tree ages were measured using increment borer in different diameter classes. With these data, stand profiles and its projection, the distribution of tree numbers in diameter, height, diameter-height classes and age-top height curves in the stands were introduced. From the silvicultural points of view, since the Turkish pine stands have come into the cutting age, it is recommended that these stands should be rejuvenated and in other stands, meintenance works should be done. |
