Summary:

In this study, cutting propagation possibilities of Monument Common Yew (Taxus baccata L.) which has survived by adapting to all types of hard climate changes were studied. By the way, it was aimed to produce many plants faster and serially that have the same genetic characteristics.

Common Yew stands in Gümeli Nature Reserve in Zonguldak-Ereğli Forest Enterprise borders were chosen as research area. Hard and softwood cutting were taken in two different periods, April and August. Perlite was used as rooting medium. The cuttings were treated with 0.1%, 0.3% and 0.5% doses of Indolebutyric Acid and have been rooted under appropriate conditions in greenhouse. Also control group was formed. The effect of these doses on the properties of enhancing root formation, root number and quality were tried to be revealed.

There was no significant effect of IBA in different doses and time on rooting percentage, root length and root number. However, the best rooting (18%) was found in hardwood cuttings treated with 0.1% IBA dose and planted in April.

Monument trees carrying biogenetic reserve value must be protected by representing the habitats where the important species are located, form an important resource value for rich biodiversity and rare genotypes. Methods of conserving genetic resources at the level of monumental trees should be increased.
